The skillful representation of natural elements
In this project, for the new headquarters of an oil facility in Abu Dhabi, greenery is conceived as the real protagonist of the architectural space. Vegetation covers entire walls of the ‘building and follows the curvilinear progression of the space, creating striking natural settings that embrace the visitor. On the ground floor, Sandrini created a large vertical garden, 260sqm, that covers the entire wall surrounding even the main glass entrance portal.
The curvilinear, upwardly elongated forms, created through a studied arrangement of essences, and the red blooms adopted, give momentum and vitality to the composition, giving life to the symbolic representation of the purest of the four natural elements: fire. The atmosphere created is one of great vivacity and energy. Whereas, the arrangement created on the two large curved walls on the second floor of the building conveys a more calm and relaxing feeling. Only small- to medium-leaved botanical species were used, selected for different shades of green and lack of blooms. The skilful use of plants creates an evocative green pattern of leafy chromatics, alternating shapes and volumes, light and shadow. Here, the symbolic element recalled air, evoked through the sense of lightness and fluidity.
