Luxuriant, beautiful gardens – rich in shrubs and scented, colorful flowers – are an essential element of decor for a charming, harmonious home and a real must have for us at Sandrini green architetture.
A right selection of the plants that with refined elegance shall decorate the green corners of your home requires a lot of care, especially if the garden is close to sea and constantly exposed to wind. Here is some useful advice for planning at best a corner of paradise on the coast and choosing the plants and decorative elements that will make it unique and irresistibly trendy.
How to create a green windscreen
In order to arrange an effective and attractive green area it is necessary to create a good windbreak. In fact, when exposed to strong blasts of salty sea winds, the shrubs tend to take an elongated, irregular shape. Such case can be reduced by choosing young and discreet bare-root hedge plants such as Acuba Japonica, Olearia and Prunus Sprinosa, highly resistant to wind and salt.
Another solution, effective and stylish at the same time, is to create elegant barriers made of different materials. The average height of the barrier structure should be 15 cm. and should be designed in a way such as to allow sea breeze run in through tiny holes, so that intensity is reduced and there is no risk of dangerous air flow.
The most appropriate plants for a garden overlooking the sea
Another harmful element for the survival of flowers and shrubs in windy sea shores is saltiness. In fact, dried salt is easily carried by crisp sea breeze and – when it lays down on delicate leaves – it can cause severe burns and a quick withering of flowers.
Natural vegetation of coast is the best choice for a beautiful, neat garden. We suggest Rosa Rugosa with its elegant, deep pink flowers, Hydrangea Paniculta Praecox with its delicate, snow white streaks of light and Cytisus x Praecox Allgold with its tiny, scented flowers of an intense yellow colour.
If instead you prefer plants in vase we suggest to opt for moisture-withholding terracotta vases and to place the shrubs far from wind blasts. Sea-reminiscent materials such as white pebbles and mother-of-pearl colour seashells are an ideal element of decor.
