It is growing the interest in the organic gardens, they are green spaces cultivated according to eco-sustainable gardening practices, respecting the soil and plants and creating a garden that can feed people physically, mentally and aesthetically. This practice can be perfectly adapted to business or private gardens, but in recent times it is used by caterers who try to offer food passing directly “from farm to fork”.
Creating an organic vegetable garden can be really challenging, but not so easy: it needs a lot of patience and a ground, it does not necessarily be a large piece of ground, in fact it is possible to create small gardens or completely organic home gardens using the space available on balconies or terraces.
Like any garden, park or green area, even the vegetable garden must be designed, especially with the goal to create a visual impact that is perfectly balanced, a work area, in which the eye can enjoy shapes and colors too.
There are several solutions that help us to make the garden as a design place, for example if you have available a lot of space, every crops can be elegantly separated by creating colorful flower beds, using the same design concepts of plants and flowers.
I saw a couple of wooden solutions for smaller environments that impressed me. The first is the modular structure Orto 4S by the architect Domenico Sasanelli for the vegetable preparation: at the same time it is a bench, a planter, a containment structure for plants, flowers and crops, therefore it is ideal for urban areas, for example to enrich the squares of our cities.
For the smaller places it is having success the VegeTable®, that is a garden “pret-a-porter” for vegetables orplants. It could be positioned everywhere, even inside companies, in urban houses or on terraces too.
An organic vegetable garden can therefore be a design place, perfectly placed in any context and useful too! Thanks to all these features, they are experiencing a real boom, and they are in fact one of the latest trend even in the hanging gardens, as evidenced by the beautiful “Garden in the clouds” of the local Sky Terrace Milan.
But do not forget to take great care of the garden. It is necessary to learn about plants, or about seeds suitable for any season and the “instructions” for the care of the plants. For a completely organic garden, seeds should be as more biological as possible, today they can easily be found in most nurseries.
This activity will be extremely rewarding both physically and mentally, and will provide organic and sustainable products to the daily diet.
